SafeVest
Concept:
The SafeVest is a reflective exercise vest designed for running, walking, or cylcing. It is equipped with GPS and cellular technology that allows the wearer to instantly transmit their exact location to emergency authorities at the push of a button.
Problem/Solution:
Running often puts people in vulnerable situations, and we hear stories all the time on the news of people being assaulted or injured while out on the roads or the trails. Other dangers include getting lost or threats from weather and automobiles. The SafeVest allows for direct contact with emergency authorities, and pinpoints your exact location to make response as fast as possible.
Inspiration:
I am a captain and varsity member of the cross country and track teams at my high school. My mother, sister, and 5 brothers were all involved in similar activities. Fitness is very important to me, and I think that any barriers to that must be taken down.
Fresh Perspectives:
There are existing safety mechanisms such as knives, pepper spray, and standard reflective vests. However, none of the options offer the versatility of the SafeVest, nor the immediate connection to emergency authorities. My background spans across both technology and fitness, and that has allowed for a unique perspective on safety.
